Capt. John FARMER

First Generation

1.  John FARMER was born in NC and died in 1862 in Graves Co., KY. John
    married Nancy HARTWELL, b. Dec 1830 in NC.
    John and Nancy moved to Tennessee in the year 1829, and settled on
    a farm in Williamson County.   John  was a carpenter and wheel-
    wright, but also cultivated the soil. In the latter years of his
    life he moved to the State of Kentucky, and located in Graves
    County, where he died about 1862. He was a Captain of militia, and a
    survivor of some of this country's earlier wars before his death.
    They had the following known children:
    + 2 M i. Hartwell Blount FARMER was born 20 Dec 1830 in Williamson 
             Co, TN.

Second Generation (Children)

2.  Hartwell Blount FARMER (John 1) was born on 20 Dec 1830 in Williamson
    Co., TN.  He is buried at the Baker Cemetery at Portia, Arkansas.
    Hartwell remained with his father until his eighteenth year, but
    being full of ambition to make his own way in life, he
    started out with that worthy object in view, and located at
    Haywood County, in the western portion of Tennessee, where he
    learned the blacksmithing trade. By close.application to his duty
    he soon became an expert, and thereafter followed that occupation
    for several years.
    In 1860 he moved to Lawrence County, Ark., and bought a tract of
    land, the same upon which he now resides. It comprises 120 acres
    of rich bottom land, and is situated two miles from Portia. He has
    cleared about sixty acres upon which stands a good double log
    house, also an orchard of 200 peach, apples, plum and pear trees,
    besides smaller fruits. Mr. Farmer enlisted in the Confederate
    Army in 1862, becoming a member of Col. Shaver's regiment of
    infantry, and served until his capture, on December 25, 1863, when
    he was taken prisoner to Rock Island, and held until near the
    close of the war. He was paroled June 5, 1865, at  Jacksonport,
    Ark.
    Hartwell and wife, Martha Odgen, were members of the Missionary Baptist
    Church, of which the former was a deacon, and also a member of the
    Masonic order since 1852.
    Hartwell was a Master Mason, and with his wife, Martha Odgen, a member
    of the Eastern Star, a degree in Masonry.   Mr. Farmer also served
    his county as justice of the peace for ten years, filling that office
    with a dignity that won for him the highest respect.
    Hartwell married Martha KING in 1852 in TN.
      They had the following children:

             5 M  ii. John FARMER, b. abt  1862 in AR.
	   + 6 M iii. Lee Thomas FARMER, b. September 15, 1869 in AR.
    Hartwell also married Martha OGDEN in Lawrence Co., AR on the 17 May 
    1872 in Lawrence Co., Arkansas .  (Martha OGDEN was a daughter of 
    Stephen OGDEN.) 
      They had the following children:
             7 F   i. Delilah P. FARMER, b. 1873
           + 8 F  ii. Jennie Belle FARMER, b. on 28 Feb 1877 in
                      Portia, Lawrence, AR and died on 28 Jul 1953
                      in Noble, Cleveland, OK
             9 M iii. Blount H. FARMER, b. abt 1879.  He is buried in 
                      Baker Cemetery Portia, Lawrence County, Arkansas.
            10 F  iv. Sarah E. L. FARMER.
            11 M   v. Milton H. FARMER, b. 21 Jan 1887; d. 25 Apr 1959.
                      is buried at the Crossroads Cemetery at Portia
                      Lawrence County, Arkansas.            
            12 M  vi. Simon Cleveland FARMER, b. 1889; d. 1950. Simon
                      is buried at the Crossroads Cemetery at Portia
                      Lawrence County, Arkansas.

3.  Margaret Ann FARMER (Hartwell B. 2, John 1) b. abt 1853 in TN. Margaret

6.  Lee Thomas FARMER (Hartwell B. 2, John 1).  Lee married Nettie
    KETNER, daughter of Daniel KETNER and Mrs. Mary J. LAWSON.  (Nettie
    KETNER was born on 5 Jun 1884 in Lawrence Co., AR and died on 7 Nov
    197 in Wewoka, OK.)
8.  Jennie Belle FARMER (Hartwell B. 2, John 1) was born on 28 Feb 1877
    in Portia, Lawrence, AR and died on 28 Jul 1953 in Noble, Cleveland,
    OK.  Jennie married Jesse Valentine KETNER, son of George Henry
    KETNER and Martha Lucille PRICE.  (Jesse Valentine KETNER was born
    on 9 Nov 1873 in Powhaton, Lawrence, AR and died on 3 Jun 1935 in
    Noble, Cleveland, OK. He is a grandson of Daniel Ketner and Catherine
    Bour)
