Possible Ancestry of
Parmer Sanford Brown

There are many Brown’s living in the Oswego County and Onondaga County areas of New York at the same time that my Great Grandfather Parmer Sanford Brown is living there. I and others feel strongely that he is related the Brown families of South Granby Township. I have more census data on Brown's in that area that I don't know where they fit into this family. One, Joseph born 1778, might be the brother to William Brown born 1772 (listed below) and descend from that branch. Joseph is a common name in my Brown family. My Grandpa was Joseph Alford Brown of Lawrence County, Arkansas.

The other Browns living the the Granby Twp area are:

One of the strongest possibilities is following.
Some of the following information is from the Brown Family Bible, sent by a Jeff Gray thru the internet to Pam English. I have also included some of Pam’s notes and my own comments & information:

1. William Brown [Son of William] of Poundridge, Westchester Co, New York, born 22 July 1772, d 22, May 1833 1st marriage on 10 Feb 1793 to Suzy Monrow, b 2 Jun 1774 d. 10 Sept 1806.

The children of William and Suzy Brown:
2. Jessie Brown b. 22 Sept 1794 in Westchester County, New York dies in January of 1870 in Oswego Co, NY at the age of 75 years. He was a veteran of the War of 1812. He marries a Nancy ( ... ) b. abt 3 Jun 1792. Jesse is listed in the 1840 census of Granby Township, living next door to a James Taylor. In the 1850 census, Sanford & Rosetta Davis Brown are living next to James and Rosina Davis Taylor. Was Sanford given this farm by Jesse or did he purchase it? No deeds with Sanford’s name on them have been found. In the 1850 census, Jesse’s wife is listed at Nancy, born in 1794 in Conneticut (per the 1855 state census of Hannibal Twp). Living with them are Richard, age 18 and was a boatman, Jessie, age 16, Lucy Barlow, age 26, Mary Barlow, age 3, and Melissa Barlow, age 1. All born in New York. The 1840 census raises question about this being the parents of Parmer Sanford Brown. Only two children are listed in the age range of Parmer, and they are Richard and Jesse S. Brown.

Jesse, Nancy, and Daniel are all buried in the Old Jacksonville Rural Cemetery at Lysander, Onondaga County, New York. [Lucy Brown Barlow later married William Bogardus]

She is living with William Bogardus in the 1855 and 1865 census as a domestic. William's wife is listed as Elmira per the 1865 census of Granby Twp, Oswege Co, NY. Then before 1880, Lucy married 2) William Bogardus. (1850-1880 census and Taylor letter) Lucy shows up in the 1905 census, but not thereafter.

a. Mary Barlow
b. Melissa Barlow. Melissa married a George W. Carpenter. (George's first wife was Annette Odell, b 1847 d 1884). George and Melissa are living in Granby Twp, Oswego Co in 1905 and the 1915 census.

NOTE: A Mrs. Aurelia Brown, age 65 years and 6 months, is listed in the Shiawassee County, Michigan deaths 1867-1893 as dying in Shiawassee County on 15-May-1867. The Hoyt/Haight Genealogies state that Aurelia Hoyt Brown died in Michigan in 1867. This Aurelia Brown is the right age and died that same year.

[ The 1840 Census of Onondaga County does not list children in right age range for Parmer Sanford Brown, but it does match the other known male children either. Did Sanford go to Michigan with his Uncle Sanford ?]

6. David Brown, married Charlotte Fancher and had 3 sons; William, George, and James Brown. James was killed in the Battle of Petersburg, Va, in Roll of Honor. I have my David, his wife, Charlotte Fancher, he says he lived there for 30 years, her also, probably about the time they got married. Email of Jeff Gray:

Fran, what I am looking at is one positive and three maybes. The positive marriage is John Slauson b. 6 Jul 1803 and Susannah Brown b. 14 Feb 1808. The three maybes are: Polly Slauson b. 19 Jan 1805 and William Harris Brown b. 24 Jan 1805; Zalman Bedient Slauson b. 3 Aug 1790 and Almira Brown b. 18 Oct 1796; and Nancy Slauson b. abt 3 Jun 1792 and Jesse Brown b. 22 Sep 1794. And since I first wrote, I have James Isaac Slauson b. 25 Feb 1796 and Theresa Brown b. 9 Apr 1800.

All 4 of the Slausons are from the same family, parents were John and Rhoda. 3 of the Browns are from the same family. Don't know where Theresa fits in yet. But all people mentioned are from the Poundridge, NY area and relocated to Lysdander. Thanks for any help you can give me..

Much of this information is provided by Jeff Gray, Pam English and Barb Lewis, and through my on research. Much thanks goes out to each one on this search for the Brown's of South Granby Township, Oswego and Onondaga Counties, New York.
